10 Natural Remedies for achieving Healthy Skin Featured

We know that you must have heard of some of this advice before, but will you actually heed it? 

Healthy and attractive looking skin is not all that hard to achieve, if you just follow some of the basic rules.

While skin serums and moisturisers certainly can improve the health of your skin, there are also a lot of natural steps that you can take that will do the trick. If you want clear, glowing skin, check out these simple tips that help you achieve healthy skin.

1. Love green tea

You probably know that green tea contains antioxidants, but did you know that green tea can actually reverse damage on your skin? If you drink two cups of green tea a day, it will help protect your skin from the sun and it will help protect you from wrinkles. Green tea also acts as an anti-inflammatory, so it will reduce redness and blemishes on your skin as well.

2. Use only natural skin care products

A lot of store-bought skin products contain nasty man-made ingredients that can leave toxic residue behind on your skin. Whenever you buy anything that are going to use on your skin, check the label carefully to make sure that you know what is in it. You will be doing you and your skin a big favour if you use skin care products that contain nothing but natural ingredients.

3. Eat more carrots

One of the essential vitamins for clear, glowing skin is Vitamin A, which helps to build the collagen that will keep your skin smooth and beautiful. One of the best natural sources of vitamin A is the orange coloured vegetables, such as carrots and sweet potatoes. Add some colour to your plate and it will help you achieve healthy looking skin.

4. Drink lots of water

Skip the soda and grab a bottle of water instead and you will soon see a marked improvement in the health of your skin. You are constantly losing water through your skin and, if you get dehydrated, the first place it will show in in your complexion. Well-hydrated skin looks smoother, younger, and it will have fewer blemishes on it, so monitor your daily intake of water and try to hit that all important 1.5 litres of water every day.

5. Use honey as a face wash

One easy way to stop putting so many chemicals on your face would be to ditch the store-bought face wash and use pure honey instead. Honey will cleanse and moisturise the skin and it will also kill bacteria and fight inflammation. Start washing your face with honey and you will be amazed at just how soft your skin looks and feels.

6. Get a good night’s sleep

This will be another tip that you will no doubt have heard before. When you sleep, your skin does a lot of its repair work and a lack of sleep will make your skin look dull and lifeless, cause dark circles under your eyes, and make your skin sag. No one is saying that you can’t go out enjoy yourself, but on the nights that you do stay in, get to bed at a reasonable time, so that you get a good seven or eight hours of sleep.

7. Use turmeric to fight inflammation

People have been using turmeric in India for thousands of years to keep their skin looking fresh and clear, and the reason that it works so well is that turmeric has remarkable anti-inflammatory properties and it softens the skin as well. The best way to use turmeric on your skin is to make a face mask of one teaspoon of turmeric and three tablespoons of plain yoghurt. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it to dry for about ten minutes. Turmeric will reduce swelling, fight acne, and it can help to reduce wrinkles too.

8. Fight ageing with tomatoes

Tomatoes are good for your skin, whether you apply the topically or you eat them. Tomatoes contain an important antioxidant called lycopene that fights the signs of ageing and keeps skin looking flawless and clear. Tomatoes also help protect your skin from the sun, so add tomatoes to your menu or apply tomato paste on your face and that will help keep your skin looking young and beautiful.

9. Exfoliate regularly

Gently exfoliating your face once or twice a week will remove all the dead skin cells and give your skin a thorough cleaning. If you leave the dead skin cells and grime to accumulate, your skin will start to look dull and you will be more likely to suffer with breakouts.

10. Lighten blemishes with potato

If you have blemishes or scars on your skin, potato juice will gradually lighten them and eventually leave you with flawless skin. Apply potato juice (or paste) to your skin, leave it on for about ten minutes until it dries, and then wash it off again with lukewarm water.  It’s the perfect way to reduce redness and lighten the skin.
